About Me and the Purpose of This Site

Hi!  My name is Nancy, and I am one of the millions of mothers who work outside the home in the United States.  This is a picture of me and my daughter at a wedding years ago:

I am married to the perfect man in the world for me, and have a beautiful daughter who is now 22 years old.  This is a picture of all three of us at the same wedding:

Of course, we cleaned up (well, too) for those pictures because a wedding was involved.  This picture is more indicative of our normal state:

The three of us together have been the proud owners of three extraordinary dogs.

Tyra was an Australian Shepherd mix, who we got February 14, 2004 at the age of 3.  She was intelligent, sweet and eager to please.

Mandy was a basset hound/husky mix.  Yes, I said basset hound/husky mix.  She was a very unusual looking dog.  We got her from the humane society in October of 2007.  Mandy was laid back, very happy to graze table tops and counter tops, and very unconcerned with anyone else’s opinion of her.

Darwin came home from the shelter in November of 2009.  He was a black lab/great dane mix.  He was very intelligent and eager to please, unless Mandy talked him into helping her with one of her peccadilloes.  He never liked being alone, so the week after we lost Mandy in September of 2019, we adopted a border collie/Jack Russell terrier mix named Daisy.  Even though he was 11 at the time, and she was 7 months old, he was sweet and patient with her, and even played with her gently to keep from hurting her.

The current canine residents of our house are Daisy, Penny and Max.

Daisy came to live with us in September of 2019.  She is a border collie/Jack Russell terrier mix, active and playful, but scared of everything.

A few week after Darwin crossed the rainbow bridge in 2022, we adopted Penny from the Pell City Humane Shelter.  She was 2 and the perfect playmate for Daisy – sweet, gentle and loving.  She is possibly the sweetest dog we have ever owned.  Her paperwork said she was a lab/hound mix.  That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.

Then, on December 27, 2022, Kayla and I adopted Max from the Pell City Animal Shelter.  I don’t have a clue what he is, but he is a very handsome dog.  He was three months old when we adopted him and is supposedly a terrier mix.  This was Max shortly after we brought him home:

And this is Max a couple of weeks ago:

Kayla had just walked into the room and he stood up on the couch, putting his paws on her arm.  His head now is the same size as he was the day we brought him home.

With one 22 year old daughter and three dogs, there is a lot of laughter in our house.  As my husband Mark says, not a lot of rest, but a lot of laughter.  That laughter is part of what I try to share with you in this blog.

I also work full time as a partner at a wonderful law firm that will remain nameless.

Like every mother who works outside the home, I have challenges and frustrations I face; some are unique to my family, others are common ones that most mothers will recognize.  This blog is also an attempt to share those with you in an amusing, light way to remind both myself and you that everything, at the end of the day, is just part of that grand adventure we call life.  I hope you enjoy reading these thoughts as much as I will enjoy writing them.
